Notes from Nursing
Hayley and I would like to introduce the Antibiotic Stewardship initiative. Antibiotic Stewardship refers to a set of commitments and actions designed to optimize treatment of infections while reducing the adverse events associated with antibiotic use.
The Center for Disease Control recommends that all nursing homes take steps to improve antibiotic prescribing practices and reduce the instance of inappropriate usage.
Inappropriate usage and overuse can lead to antibiotic resistance and cause serious harm. These may include diarrheal infections, adverse drug events, drug interactions, and may cause further infection with antibiotic resistant organisms.
Please keep in mind that we know it is difficult to watch those we love with an illness. However, there are criteria that needs to be met in order for an antibiotic to be ordered. If you feel that your loved one may need an antibiotic, please do not call the clinic. Call the facility and talk to the charge nurse. They will be happy to notify the physician and will decide the best course of action.
If you have any questions regarding the Antibiotic Stewardship, please call or stop by and see Hayley or Kristina.
Thank you!
