Polypharmacy is the simultaneous use of multiple drugs to treat a single ailment or condition. Polypharmacy affects about 40% of older adults. Polypharmacy can lead to adverse events such as falls, decreased medication effectiveness, side effects, decreased kidney function, and increased medical costs. Polypharmacy can also be linked to decreased quality of life due to decreased cognition and mobility. We will be looking at resident medications and work towards appropriate reductions. An example of what we will work on is if a resident is on a multivitamin, do they really need it if they are eating a well-balanced diet? If you would like to review your loved one's medications with us, please feel free to see one of us.
Thank you,
