June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month.  An estimated 5.8 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease today.  It is the most common cause of dementia.  While there are some medications that can temporarily improve cognitive symptoms, unfortunately none can slow or stop the damage and destruction of neurons that cause this disease.  Early symptoms of this disease may include memory loss that disrupts daily life, difficulty solving problems, confused about time or place, and new problems with speaking or writing.  The more awareness that is raised, the closer we will become to a treatment.
